Internship Experience: Moving Forward

CPMS230

Moving forward, I can apply the lessons from my internship to my post-graduation career search. While it’s important for me to know what I want to pursue, it’s just as crucial for me to know what I don’t want to. Had I interned elsewhere, I would not have discovered that marketing didn’t suit me—not because I am incompetent but because I prefer the structure of accounting. I can say the same about my target industry. Dive enhanced my knowledge about the tech sector, which helped me decide that I want a career at more established companies instead.

I will also apply the skills I gained at Dive to future positions. Since I specialized in multiple functions, I can adapt to different roles and highlight my versatility as a job candidate during interviews. The communication required for pitching also aids me in tutoring sessions, when I must simplify concepts for students within a set time frame. Likewise, the relationship-building skills I’ve developed will help me tailor services to clients while leaving a more positive impression of both of me and my company.

Finally, I will cherish the friendships I made through Dive, for they have given me new perspectives and encouragement to keep growing. After I recruited her to intern with me at the company, a friend recommended me for a leadership position in the nonprofit CORA (Combating Overdoses in Rural Areas), where I am using my marketing experience to re-brand the organization. I hope that someday, I will be that same force again in someone else’s life, believing in them as much as they do in me.
